It was until 1963 when its name was officially changed to Mexico City International Airport (AICM).ĭuring the 1960s the airport made certain adjustments in order to upgrade the terminal and even considered Saint Lucia's airspace for a new airport in the early 1970s, but this did not materialize. However, it did not fully enter into operation until 1954, when it was equipped with all the necessary systems to operate it. This included runway 05D-23I, a new platform, the new terminal building, its control tower and the building for authorities of the air terminal. November 19, 1952, the date officially commemorated as the anniversary of the airport, corresponds to an extension started in 1949.
